Real Stuff is a lunchtime group where Shopifolk get together and talk about the real stuff that's going on in their lives!
A Real Stuff facilitator hosts, and we eat, we share our highs and our lows, and we listen to each other's stories.
Sometimes we need a welcoming space to share what's going on in our lives, without judgment.
Hearing others' stories helps us know we aren't alone in our experiences.
Shopify can get crazy! Having a place to slow down and connect with others, and with ourselves, is valuable.
These are lunch hour talks to support all Shopifolk (an iteration on breaking lunches)
The format is that it is a roundtable where you share the high and low in your life in your life right now
Your job is to listen, no one offers you advice or tries to solves problem
This is a great way for people to not feel alone in the experiences they are having
Examples of lows people share are grief or if you moved for Shopify and you are not settling in very well or your partner is not settling in well.
They also talk about great stuff
It is a talking space and it helps people develop active listening and empathy
When will they be available to all?
Currently, they are live in the Philippines
Toronto, Ottawa, Waterloo will start hosting sessions as of next week
Remote sessions, which covers offices like SFO, will launch in two times zones soon.
Why am I telling you this?
Real Stuff talks would be a great resource to direct people to if they are struggling with anything
Connectors can also use them as a means of self-care
They are doing a soft launch so right now you hear about them through word of mouth ie: your lead, the Connectors, your HRBP or people who currently go to them.

Anti-harassment training is being developed for all of Shopify to ensure we have a base level of understanding of that policy and the procedure to report. The training will also go through scenarios of what harassment is as well as what behavior is inappropriate. ACTION: If you have any examples of behaviors you have seen here at Shopify or heard of through your Connectors chats, please ping Meghan as we want to make the scenarios in the training as relevant as possible.
How not to get in a shit video for onboarding is being developed to cover some of the common mistakes people make when it comes to our code. A harassment example will be embedded in here as well.
An advisory group was formed after Breitbart as a way to evaluate issues that arise that require the owners of policies, practices, and strategies. This group is now formalizing a bit more by creating a mission and a clearer objective. The Connectors and the Inclusion team will be able to utilize this group to propose larger changes.
Last year we ran an inclusion survey using an anonymous form. While it was a great snapshot, the data aged quickly. We are working to get more fields added in Workday so we can collect diversity data through that system, making it more timeless and easier to analyze by department and location in real time.
